Hummer H3 goes global, starts production in Africa

It's time for the Hummer H3 to expand its reach beyond North American soil and step towards a global expansion of the brand through increased production capacity.
GM today celebrated the start of production at its Struandale assembly plant in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Maureen Kempston Darkes, president of GM Latin America, Africa and the Middle East said, "The GM team in South Africa has demonstrated to the world that they have the people, the leadership, the technology and the skills to execute the type of automobile engineering and assembly that is required in the new global economy."
That global demand for Hummer is booming, and GM began production in South Africa just 6 years after acquiring the brand in 1999. After a strong and consistent sales increase over the years, the H3 is now set to go on sale in Europe, Asia and South Africa.
The Struandale assembly plant represents a $100 million investment in South African Operations last year.
The African built H3 will be a purebred Hummer through and through, available with a 242 horsepower Vortec engine, manual or automatic transmission, and premium full-time all wheel drive system. A right-hand drive model will be available for 2007 as well.

Well, on the bright side I guess it makes Americans look less stupid and greedy if they're going to sell them around the world.
I read in the Newsweek car review blurb for the BMW M6 that it only gets 12/18 mpg, which is worse than the H3, no? And BMW is notorious for inflating their mpg estimates.... -
