you guys are so ignorant blaming on the global warming and crap on hummers. for one hummers don't have the worst fuel efficiency, the have the same as most of the full size trucks and suv's you see with v8 engines. The hummers have the same engine as most of the general motors trucks you see,. Why dont you make another dumba$$ topic about ford exursions or chevy tahoes or any other suv? they are all just as bad if not worse. People just think hummers have the worse fuel econmomy because they appear to be the biggest. How about you let people drive whatever they want and stop bi!ching about it

Re: Hummers aren't the worse
Wed, February 6, 2008 - 9:45 PMHow about you let people bitch about what they want to bitch about? You seem to have jumped to the conclusion that people here think hummer owners are assholes because of the reasons you listed. I can't speak for everyone here but my conclusion that hummer drivers are assholes comes from a broad scientific study examining the personalities of the owner of various vehicles. For example 71.3% of sedan drivers are assholes, compared with 76% for truck drivers. It's important to note that there is a large disparity in the frequency of assholes by occupation and geography in regards to trucks, in rural communities the frequency of assholes drops to 63% while in urban settings it climbs to 89%. Hummers, not used by the military, regardless of the owners occupation or location have an asshole frequency of about 98.8%. All this research shows is that there is a statistical link to hummers and assholes. Examining everything from scooters to semi-trucks shows an inverse link between utility and asshole frequency which may partially explain the high numbers for hummer drivers, but clearly there are other variables involved. I hope this cleared things up for you. -

Thu, February 7, 2008 - 2:34 PMi assume you are being facetious in mentioning a "study" that examines personalities of various vehicle owners. but just in case you're not i'm wondeirng where this "study" can be found? -

Re: Hummers aren't the worse
Sat, May 3, 2008 - 9:59 AMI say take ALL the SUVs off the road. They are a danger to all the people in normal cars. -

Re: Hummers aren't the worse
Sat, May 3, 2008 - 1:38 PMNo way man. I want as much metal as possible between me and the crackhead Bay Area drivers I have to deal with on the highway.
The best defense is a good offense. -
-
Re: Hummers aren't the worse
Sat, May 3, 2008 - 7:05 PMThat's the problem. If everyone drove a normal size car we would all be equally safe (or have an equal level of danger depending on how you look at it).
There is always going to be someone with something bigger on the road. It's a battle that can't be won. After you buy the new Ford Super Enormo XL, your neighbor will go out and buy the Super Enormo XXL.
As it is now, I can't see the traffic light or the street sign ahead when I'm behind one of those giant walls of steel and blacked out glass.
As aweful as the Hummer H1 was (and I'm so glad it was discontinued for public sale), it was not the tallest thing out there. There are just so many blind spots on the roads these days caused by huge SUVs, oversized pickups and those damned trucks that do nothing but drive around with the giant billboard in the back (I think those should be banned from public roads).
Some SUVs are so high off the ground that you can stand right in front of the hood and not be seen by the driver. -

Re: Hummers aren't the worse
Sat, May 3, 2008 - 7:17 PMyeah, i often have trouble backing out of my driveway due to the house-sized vehicles parked at the curb in front of my house. once, i couldn't make a right turn into a busy street because the behemoth to my left trying to make a left turn was completely blocking my view of oncoming traffic. the chick in the passenger seat gave me this smarmy little smile so i flipped her off. -

Re: Hummers aren't the worse
Sat, May 3, 2008 - 7:29 PMSee? I'm not the only one who has experienced this problem.
I miss the gold old days (the '80's) when almost everyone drove a small car. If you were wealthy, you'd buy a sports car. Today they buy something the size of a UPS truck. -

Re: Hummers aren't the worse
Sat, May 3, 2008 - 10:35 PMGood news is, with gas prices going the way they are, everyone's going to be driving scooters.
At least you can rest easy knowing that the asshole in the huge SUV is now having to spend all of his viagra money on fuel. -

Re: Hummers aren't the worse
Sun, May 4, 2008 - 8:36 AMas my commute to work is only about 7 miles, it makes a lot of sense for me to have something like a scooter for my daily use. i don't think i'd be able to convince the dogs to ride on the back, however. -

Re: Hummers aren't the worse
Wed, May 21, 2008 - 11:03 PMI've seen it too. Try a basket for the scooter or a sidecar for the motorcycle.

Re: Hummers aren't the worse
Sun, May 4, 2008 - 1:40 AMThat may work in California but there are people in other states that do need them. Most don't I know, but enough people do. And yeah, they are a danger to other drivers, so are RVs. Maybe we need to start issuing special licenses for dangerous vehicles, heck we already do it for motorcycles. -
-
Re: Hummers aren't the worse
Sun, May 4, 2008 - 11:30 AMWhat do people in other states need them for?
I could see the need for a large truck if you work in construction or farming or maybe a big van if you are a plumber or TV repair person.
Most familes will fit into a sedan or station wagon without problems. -

Re: Hummers aren't the worse
Sun, May 4, 2008 - 12:09 PMRanching, families in rural communities living on unmaintained roads. This is perhaps the majority of people living in Montana. A subaru just doesn't have the clearance or weight to get around. I think suvs also handle better on snow and ice because they have better weight distribution then trucks. Besides qo suvs get that bad of gas milage compared to trucks and large vans? If they are a similar size and get similar gas milage why should they be singled out?

Re: Hummers aren't the worse
Sun, May 4, 2008 - 12:14 PMOkay then. I'll focus my rage on the SUV owners here in California, especially the ones in Orange County.
There is no need for those things on the streets of OC.

Re: Hummers aren't the worse
Sun, May 4, 2008 - 12:35 PMDuring the winter I do a lot of driving on snowy roads that require 4WD, plus I need clearance to get through areas that haven't been plowed yet.
I carry a snatch-em-strap to help folks in 4WD/AWD passenger cars get unstuck from snowbanks.
Whenever possible I try to pick up hitchhiking ski area employees and share the commute.
